Santorini
Overview

You enter into your hotel room. Crisp white linens adorn the bed, the sparse art hangs colored in the various blues of the sea, and a bottle of perfectly pink chilled rosé beckons. You slip into your lace Johanna Ortiz dress  the fabric mimicking the textured, whitewashed walls surrounding you, you layer your Gigi Clozeau turquoise necklace over the gold chain holding the evil eye charm you've been sporting for weeks now (eager much?), you lace up your Gianvito sandals, the tanned suede matching the hand-cut floor tiles of the hotel, and grab your straw hat, the natural fibers really could camouflage themselves into the high grasses. Walking out to your private terracing you silently congratulate yourself as you visualize the perfectly coordinated, envy-inducing Instagrams to come. Babe brings out your wine and as you take in the views the sun begins to set. While the yellow sun intensifies, the blue-sky fading into soft purples, which deepen to plums and burgundy that highlight the fluffy clouds above. You underestimated this island.

Born of volcanic eruptions dating back to 3,000 B.C. Santorini, a crescent shaped island is an incredible sight. Infinity pools impossibly hang over orange and red cliffs that plunge into the sea. Black beaches, white beaches and red beaches rest in the coves of the island’s shores. Terraces look out onto the whitewashed buildings with their bright blue rooftops that rest on even the steepest of cliffs. Needless to say, Santorini has been a destination of choice among the jetset since Jackie and Grace first set foot in the Greek Isles in 1961. Today's vacationers include Hollywood Power Players  Angelina Jolie and Hugh Jackman; fashion's elite  Karolina Kurkova and Heidi Klum; and the Instagram-obsessed influencers of today  Chrissy Teigen and Olivia Palermo. And now(!) you can be one of them.

With a more mellow, laid-back scene than its sister island Mykonos, Santorini is all about easy luxury. What is more-envy inducing and indulgent than boating among European islands? We suppose being on a yacht with Leo and his p***y posse but that's beside the point. Moving on, literally. Hire a private boat tour, making sure it lasts thru sunset. This allows for a very, very important fashion moment. Try and tell us there is something more amazingly chic than wearing a Brunello Cucinelli cashmere cardigan (bonus points if its men's) over your Eres swimsuit. No seriously, we dare you.

Fortunately, we can skip the Google searches and take Ulla Johnson, the luxe-bohemian designer's advice: We took an incredible boating trip to Milos and Folegandros and stopped along the way at countless gorgeous beaches inaccessible by foot or car, where we could dive off the boat and swim wherever we liked. Unclear if you should warn babe it takes 7-10 pics to get the perfect diving shot. The fashion crowd has spoken and Antiparos is a must. There for a July family vacation Valerie Macauley, former Voguette, co-founder & creative director of La Ligne and all around it-girl, has been showing us that a glowing tan, hair brightened from sea and sun and feminine maxi dresses (LoveShackFancy) deliver the picture-perfect look for relaxing, rose drinking days. Top on Ulla Johnson's must-do list is Beach House. This spot is all about sweet vibes. Sheltered in a cove it allows for a private beach where you'll laze about on sunbeds while creative cocktails magically appear. Antiparos is your caftan "moment". The deep blue cotton of you TWO caftan with its gold specks goes surprisingly well with your evil eye necklace... Smart girl. Babe paddleboards...

DINING

Where the elite goes, the champagne flows. So cheesy, but so true. Hotel terraces, cliff-top restaurants and anywhere overlooking the caldera makes for some serious indulgent moments. Jetsetters and their besties, the fashion elite, all flock to the rooftop eatery Red Bicycle. Located on the tip of Oia the restaurant is housed in a 19th-century Santorini mansion with a 180-degree view of both the sunset and volcano. The terrace really is the only place to sit. Aperitifs without the Aegean sea breezes — we don't think so. On the opposite side of the spectrum Saltsa, a casual kebab lunch spot, is a favorite among world-renowned chefs. On Perivolos beach Seaside by Notos has a lively jazz band. It's music pairing perfectly with its unique dishes and delicious cocktails. Foodies with love Selene. This 30-year old in the medieval village of Pygros where it sits close to island's most fertile agriculture land and wine-growing region exemplifies its original philosophy that to truly offer the unique taste of the island you must use fresh, local ingredients. All about promoting local products and sharing the knowledge, Selene offers cooking courses. Babe ties your apron.

NIGHTLIFE

A cult classic, be sure to arrive early and catch the spectacular sunset at Franco's Bar in Fira.

As darkness falls it's all about the dancing. This is Europe after all. Tango Bar is officially the most glamourous of all. Sip champagne of cliff-hanging terraces with ocean and volcano views before moving into the ultra-stylish indoor dance floor. Pair your chicest heel with your most flouncy mini skirt for the ultimate twirl. How else will everyone see you perfectly tanned, glam gams? If this isn't enough for you, the hedonistic Enigma Club will be. Arched doorways lead to the 3-room nightclub complete with an outdoor tiki bar. Top DJ's spin 'til dawn. Head with a group to Koo Club. Its legendary indoor-outdoor dance floors draws a lively crowd every night. Dance under shimmering chandeliers and swirling disco balls (a European vacay must) to the techno-loving DJ's summertime remixes. More mellow than Mykonos never meant boring. Babe holds your purse.

When you're not soaking up the sun at the out-of-this-world beaches like Mesa Pigadia and Perivolos Beach, or scoping out the best beach bars in Santorini (cue: Wet Stories, Theros Wave Bar Seaside by Notos), there are a lot of stops in Santorini that you don't want to miss — even if you just visit a village for a meal or take a few hours to visit the ancient sites you'll want to plan for a few favorites. Rarely seen in the hyper-filtered images on Instagram is the archeological site of Akrotiri. On the southern end of the island, you'll walk through the villages of ancient civilizations that were demolished with each volcanic eruption. This a favorite stop for Ulla Johnson so, we're sold. For the roller coaster loving 11-year-old in all of us take the white-knuckle inducing cable car to the capital Fira. Finally, and yes, we know this this sounds crazy  definitely schedule a few tours. These are not the Carnival cruise day trips filled with screaming kids, video and voice-over obsessed baby boomers or keep it in the bedroom newlyweds. Recommendations for top wine-lists and best tours can be found everywhere, from the pages of Vogue to Travel + Leisure to the ultra-chic Mr. and Mrs. Smith hoteliers. Point proven! The terrain and soil composition differs across the island  notably unique is its volcanic soil. Santorini Wine Tour (genius name, I know) offers private tours. Visit 3 wineries and taste 12 varieties ending the day admiring the sunset overlooking the caldera. If you're not quick on the draw this means you should book an afternoon tour. Santo WinesArgyros Estate and Boutari Winery are a few of our faves. Regardless of your plan, wine day is a casual day. Read: straw hat and pink cut-offs. Outfit and nature subtly synchronized for the perfect Instagram. Shay Mitchell slays the background blend in her white and black gingham. Babe wears his baseball hat. Eye-roll.

Style on the island is essentially the best summer wardrobe you could ask for. the very, very obvious style inspo is the white-washed buildings. Bring as many white dresses as your little heart desires. In addition to packing faves from Self-PortraitZimmermann and Stella you obvs need to show the Insta world (ahem, frenemies and judgers) you're "in the know". It'll be love at first site with Khaite  who's all about classic lines with a feminine touch. P.Speep the polka dot dress.

In Fira, you'll find numerous little shops, selling various types of merchandise, lining the cobblestone streets. Maistros Accessories offers super-cute, fun and unique—read: your friends won't have—accessories to sub-in for the Cult Gaia and Edie Parker clutches you already own. Renowned for its jewelry be sure to make a memorable purchase while on island. Ilias Lalounis carries an exceptional collection of designed made of rich yellow gold. Coin inspired pendant necklaces, coiled cuffs and snake bracelets that wrap the wrist honor the island's ancient Hellenic heritage. Wear these pieces for your farewell candlelit dinner overlooking the volcano at Oia's Ambrosia Restaurant. Known for the most breathtaking sunset views on the island and with only 12 tables set on 2 terraces Ambrosia offers an unmatched, fairytale ending. Babe holds your hand, sigh.
