Ibiza
Overview

Where the famous flock. Where when the sun goes down, the sound goes up. Where ladies donned in hippy chic and hippy chi-chi float from beach to bar to boat. It’s the island for everyone. It’s the ever epic, ever glamorous, Ibiza. Dropped in the Mediterranean off the Spanish coast, this Balearic Island is the European epicenter for summertime revelry. Best-known for its beautiful beaches, hippie history, and lively nightlife, Ibiza lures the likes of stylish elite. Past visitors include Kate Moss, Beyonce, Kate Hudson, and Naomi Campbell, many of whom returned last August for Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci’s extravagant Ibizan bday bash. Assuming you’ve planned your Ibiza journey for the peak summer season, be sure to pack your Anna Kosturova beachwear for daytime carousal in the warm white sand. White lace is a beachy Ibiza staple, not to mention a great look on your newly bronzed skin. When the sun starts to dip (circa 9:30pm…), slip into something sexy and sophisticated for evening cocktails at one of the stylish beach clubs overlooking the sea as vibrant pink and orange tones light up the sunset sky. With your martini glass empty and the sun below the horizon, it’s time for dinner and dancing. For the best restaurants and clubs, you’ll want to put your most fashionable foot forward.  Think Jonathan Simkhai with a Stella McCartney clutch and a Castaner wedge or stiletto. You’ll know you’re really dressed like your finest self when you’re cutting the club line with a fine bachelor and swept away to the Pacha VIP tables.

But wait, before you non-clubbers give up and stop reading, know that Ibiza has plenty more to offer. Take a break from the Ibiza Town scene to explore the more serene island areas (your liver and your mother will thank you). Within the island also lie ample boutique hotels, peaceful villages oozing cultural history, and quieter beaches where you can finally dive into that book your aunt got you for Christmas (that, or whatever Chelsea Handler writes up next). Intimate sandy coves beneath piney rocks and hills line the Ibiza coast, beckoning you on a romantic getaway or an exploration with the girls. If you’re looking to get real zen, you can channel 1970’s Ibiza and try out a yoga retreat (new ones are popping up every month). For a nice happy medium, take a trip to the charming old town of Dalt Vila, lined with shops (!!!) and cute cafes.

Whether you’re jetting in for revelry or relaxation, with our ins-and-outs you’re sure to spend your Ibiza vaca dripping in style and sea-spray (Balmain, that is). Your A-list island awaits.

DINING

While Ibiza mainly boasts its beaches and its bars, finding time for some great island food is a must amid all the frenzied festivities. Tread onto the sands of the Tropicana Beach Club restaurant for a sophisticated midday meal with your man or your fam (tip—head back Sunday night in a floral frock for their Caribbean party!). If you’re fraught at the thought of leaving your fave juice shop in the US, Elements Ibiza can assuage your kale-amity (god we’re punny) with a fresh juice bar complimenting its Mediterranean restaurant, which spills onto the sands of Benirras Beach. When the sun starts sinking, slip into a chic cocktail number for happy-hour at the Cali-chill Sushi Mambo—perhaps a Loup Charmant red dress as vibrant as the sunset and as spicy as the tuna. Though open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Blue Marlin Cocktail Bar Lounge is another hotspot to transition into the evening (their motto is literally service “for beautiful people from beautiful people”). Enjoy Peruvian-inspired creations at this exclusive address while you sit surrounded by the Ibiza Marina’s yachts (a girl can dream) and immersed in the DJ’s tranquil beats. The gorgeous airy terrace of Coco Beach is another stylish option to showcase your beach style before the night really starts.

NIGHTLIFE

If around 10:30pm you’re normally tucked in bed with a book, please remember you’re in Spain and grab a coffee with cocktails because in Ibiza dinner is just about to be served. Described as “elegantly mischievous”, entertainment venue and restaurant Lio Ibiza is as captivating and outrageous as Rihanna’s outfit at the 2015 Met Gala (but with slightly fewer feathers). Get ready for a wildly unforgettable evening at this celeb favorite where you can ball out, drink up, and spin around the dance floor in your stilettos as the extravagant performers take the stage (think Cirque-de-Solei meets Caberet). For a different extravagance, spend your next night at Cipriani Ibiza, a posh restaurant of catwalk-level ultra-glamour, savoring a sophisticated meal in a sleek modern setting at the Gran Hotel with striking views of the harbor. Also new to the Gran Hotel is HEART, a creative restaurant partnership between the world-famous Adria chef brothers and Cirque de Soleil founder, Guy Laliberte. Feel free to experiment with risky trends and statement pieces at this unique collision of food, art, and entertainment. Slink into your favorite printed ensemble before strolling through the arching canopy of bamboo at Bambuddha, where you can enjoy Thai Curries and Japanese specialties amid cool mood lighting, even in your own private tiki-hut table with cushioned seating.  Save your most special occasions for an evening at Sa Capella Restaurant, dressed in your finest to suit the unique ambiance of the old converted church while you savor sublime Spanish cuisine. For glamour with some Asian fusion and a fun, flirty feel, try Ginger at Sa Punta. Set among the pine trees of Talamanca and decorated in colorful furnishings, it’s been described as “an Instagrammer’s paradise”. I’ll drink my #espressomartini to that.

DAY

Hope you’re prepared to get a little sandy. Socialize with the swanky crowd at Playa d’en Bossa, Ibiza’s longest and most famous beach filled with famous clientele (beauties like Kate Moss and Poppy Delevingne are often seen strolling this stretch). Beach House Ibiza is a chic beach club on la playa for some daytime DJ-ing and tipsy tanning. If carousing with the party people isn’t your thing, slip you’re pedicured toes into the white sand of Portinatx beach, north of Ibiza town and more popular with families.  For a more intimate excursion, drop into the tiny cove of Sol d’en Serra, sheltered by two impressive cliffs. Stylish beach club Amante overlooks the cove, so you can toss on your Saylor romper after your ocean dip for lunch and cocktails. Other more chilled-out beach clubs for you to slurp up chilled mojitos include Kumharas and Jockey Club. On an island known for spectacular sunsets, be sure to spend an evening at Sunset Ashram’s beach bar and indulge your inner hedonism with the fused pleasure of delicious cocktails and Ibiza’s natural beauty. But no week in Ibiza could be complete without venturing to the elite island of Formentera. Hop on the frequent ferries, or better yet rent a boat to sail you over for a day of perfect sun-soaked seclusion (Moloko Luxury is top notch and well worth the splurge). Once your private sailboat docks at the shores of Formentera, you’d be remiss not to indulge in a beachside meal of crab and Crystal at Juan y Andrea, attracting everyone from Hollywood stars to ex-Presidents to shipping magnates. Oh, and virtually all of the Formentera beaches are clothing optional, so don’t say we didn’t warn you before you choke on your lobster tail. If you’d rather keep your blowout dry, definitely explore the dripstone caves Cuevas Can Marca at Puerto de San Miguel. Or throw on a maxi and some K. Jacques sandals for a day trip to Ibiza Old Town, Dalt Vila, site of la Iglesia de Sant Domingo, the beautiful 16th century baroque church.

NIGHT

Ok clubbers, you’ve been patient… Let’s dive into the some nightlife. If you’ve not yet heard of Pacha, you’ve probably been living under a rock so take note because it’s the #1 Ibiza hotspot and has been lauded as the #2 best club in the world; their double-cherry logo is literally everywhere on the island. Whether you’re balling out with bottle service in the VIP section (props) or dancing in the thick of the main floor (hey, you’re burning off some major cocktail cals) be sure to show up to this club looking fresh and fine and ready to let your energy flow as freely as the tequila to the beat of David Guetta’s latest set. Mix yourself in the middle of the madness at Space, an unmissable, enormous venue featuring tons of unique rooms with different music to match. Go wild with your outfit if you wish, though standing out is a tough feat among the ridiculousness, even for the most daring. Ushuaia is the prime spot for the quintessential Ibizan pool party where you’ll brush shoulders with VIP as you shift from pool, to luxurious club rooms, to the stage, vibrating to live sets of the best DJ’s in the world. Even when the weekend ends, a case of the Monday’s simply doesn’t exist in Ibiza, with Amnesia hosting its legendary Cocoon party every Monday of the season, bringing some of today’s hottest techno DJ’s to this spiritual venue (Amnesia made its name among 1970’s Ibiza music lovers).

On an island abounding with A-listers, you know you’ve gotta look your beachy best. Make sure your suitcase is filled with glam swimwear and club-wear galore (not to mention some statement jewelry pieces), but leave some room for authentic Ibizan purchases. While virtually all the beach clubs and night clubs offer cute island shops, the absolute must-visit spot is Ibiza’s oldest fashion store, the Vicente Ganesha boutique, run by Ibiza fashion legend Vicente Hernandez. From antique jewelry, to classic Spanish dresses, gorgeous cotton kaftans, and retro 70’s stillettos (toss your Havianas out the window, please.), no savvy fashionista would miss Ganesha Aladdin’s cave of irresistible vintage Ibiza-wear. Walk the promenade of Marina Ibiza to explore the Blue Marlin pop-up shops of fashion locals like Ermanno Scervino, as well as a special Stella McCartney pop-up open this summer season through October. Perched above Ibiza town rests the charming town of Dalt Vila, the perfect spot to browse unusual, quality items along cobbled streets or snag a gorgeous handmade handbag.  Among some Dalt Vila boutiques are Ibiza Bagus, great for bejeweled sandals and boho maxis, and Solis Lucrum, featuring more stunning vintage and eclectic antiques. Clued-in visitors head to the Kiara shop at Sa Punta Restaurant (about five minutes from Ibiza town) for a chic rendezvous of boho elegance with Mediterranean flare. The Treasure Chest at Experimental Beach is another charming boutique for traditional Ibizan attire. Score unique accessories at Jose Pascual, for hand-woven bags and baskets, or Lara, the hotspot for shoes made by local Ibiza designers (as well as some international designer products).
